PALM Hotel Sri Lanka

Nakanda, Galkadanduwa, Ahangama, Sri Lanka

About this Stay

The PALM Hotel Sri Lanka, a soulful and surf-oriented oasis nestled in the coastal village of Ahangama. Just a short drive from Galle and a couple of hours from the airport, this coastal retreat offers the perfect blend of tranquility and accessibility. The PALM Hotel is located four kilometers inland in Nakanda, away from the hustle and bustle of the coast, yet conveniently close to everything it has to offer.

Inspired by Shoreditch warehouse conversions, vintage travel and Geoffrey Bawa’s renowned Lunuganga estate, PALM showcases contemporary sustainable design set against a backdrop of century-old gingerbread cottages and surf shacks. The hotel features a double-height glass and steel pavilion partially constructed from shipping containers, creating a unique and contemporary atmosphere. The palm grove surrounding the hotel is adorned with black A-frame cabanas, and the interiors are a blend of pastel pinks, cane furniture and basketry, creating a harmonious connection with nature.

Personalized service is a top priority at PALM. Owners Miriam and Laurie, who live on site, offer their excellent local knowledge to ensure a memorable stay. The hotel boasts a swimming pool and a non-air-conditioned CrossFit gym equipped with salvaged equipment from their former gym in Shoreditch.

PALM’s stylish and affordable accommodation has already become a favourite with creatives, families and discerning surfers. The glass-fronted A-frame cabanas offer spacious interiors featuring poured cement, comfortable low-slung beds, floor-to-ceiling windows and white rattan ceilings. Each cabana has indoor bathrooms and private outdoor courtyards with showers surrounded by tropical plants. Set amidst the palm grove, the cabanas offer picturesque views of the garden and provide a relaxing space for guests to unwind.

Indulge in culinary delights at the all-day dining pavilion, an architectural masterpiece of steel, glass, and shipping containers. Overseen by British chef Emily Dobbs, known for her championing of Sri Lanka’s legendary hoppers, the open kitchen serves a fusion of local and Western flavors using garden-fresh and locally sourced ingredients. From red mullet ceviche to spicy chicken curry, the menu is a tantalizing journey of flavors. Breakfast surprises guests with nutritious kurrukan flour rotis and delicious egg curry with string hoppers. Relax with refreshing drinks like the Vodka Rose and Lime Soda or the Karapincha (curry leaf) G&T, perfectly paired with trays of pappadams and chutneys.

Treat yourself to the unique charm of PALM Hotel Sri Lanka, where contemporary design, exceptional service and culinary delights come together to create an unforgettable experience in Ahangama.
